JPE Crossmark Policy Statement
Crossmark is a multi-publisher initiative from Crossref to provide a standard way for readers to locate the current version of a piece of content. By applying the Crossmark logo Journal of Philosophy of Emotion is committing to maintaining the content it publishes and to alerting readers to changes if and when they occur. Clicking on the Crossmark logo will tell you the current status of a document and may also give you additional publication record information about the document.
The JPE’s Crossmark policies have been directly informed by the retraction guideline provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Please see this guideline for more detailed information about the purpose and process of retractions and corrections.
The JPE will retract any publication in which any of the following is applicable:
There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error)
A publication has been previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission or justification (i.e., cases of redundant publication)
A publication constitutes plagiarism
A publication reports unethical research
The JPE will issue an expression of concern regarding any publication if any of the following is applicable:
There is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors
There is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the authors’ institution will not investigate the case
An investigation into alleged misconduct related to the publication either has not been, or would not be, fair and impartial or conclusive
An investigation is underway but a judgement will not be available for a considerable time
The JPE will issue a correction, by replacing the incorrect publication with a corrected publication, if any of the following is applicable:
A portion of an otherwise reliable publication proves to be misleading (especially because of honest error), even under a charitable interpretation of the portion of the publication
The author/contributor list is incorrect (i.e. a deserving author has been omitted or somebody who does not meet authorship criteria has been included)
In order to submit a request for a correction or retraction, please see the Post-Publication Request page, and complete the JPE Post-Publication Request Form.
Reporting Ethical Violations
Please complete the Journal of Philosophy of Emotion's Ethical Violation Report Form in order to report any pre-publication or post-publication misconduct, complaints against the journal, its staff, editorial board members, its editorial advisory board members, contributing authors, or any conflicts of interests/competing interests. Such reports will be delivered to the editor-in-chief, who will respond to the author of the complaint within one week of the submission of this form. If the complaint involves the editor-in-chief, it will be forwarded to an advisory board member to manage the resolution of the complaint. The editor-in-chief or advisory board member will include in their response any steps they have taken in order to address the reported issue and any steps they intend to take. The author of this complaint may also be requested to take part in the process of appropriately addressing the reported issue, which may include providing documents to support the issue, and meeting with the editor-in-chief, members of the staff, members of the editorial board, and/or members of the editorial advisory board, in order to properly adjudicate the details of the misconduct or complaint and resolve any concerns that may arise from the report of the misconduct or complaint. Once a resolution has been reached regarding the reported misconduct or complaint, the editor-in-chief will notify all relevant stakeholders regarding the details of the resolution. All the documents associated with any report of misconduct or complaint will be maintained online by the JPE in its Google Drive repositories. Finally, if the reported issue involves the violation of any state or federal law by the editor-in-chief, members of the staff, or members of the editorial advisory board, we advise the author of this complaint to contact the relevant legal bodies in order to file a report or complaint with those legal bodies.
